| The Introductory Waffle From 2003 till 2005, what happened is that a number of net- records appeared, four of them in fact, EP-length for the most part, and the truth of the facts of the case is that, with a few exceptions, I can’t even bring myself to listen to the damn things anymore. What it all amounted to was Yours Truly finding the feet an all the rest, getting stuck round the ankles most times, lo-fi hissy recordings of songs that, to be all the honest in the world, were probably alright a lot of the time, but performed by a fella I just can’t listen to without cringing. Over earnest and high-pitched and very twee a lot of the time, which maybe I still am, I dunno, but certainly the songs on the most recent Net Records, Songs From The Back Room and 120 Removed have a different atmosphere, a different vibe or some such, to these recordings right here. These are the fifteen tracks from off a those EP’s that I can still listen to, if I choose, which I usually don’t. Some of them have been remixed and rejigged a tad for this compilation thingy, and three of them are “Full Band” versions, with drums and bass and the like provided by Darren Worth. Incidentally, Darren Worth made a record of instrumental music a while back, a glorious affair, still available to grab on Mondo Irlando. And folks occasionally tell me that their very favourite stuff of mine is this earlier malarkey, so who knows, maybe there’s some value to it all? I dunno. But I see these things as kinda wobbly drunken half-rid steps towards the kinda sound and such that I started playing with on Songs From The Back Room. I.E, the reverb-soaked introspective moaning at length.
